Couplers (or taps) are similar to splitters, in that they both divide the signal from a single coax cable. Couplers, however, do not split the signal equally: They send a smaller portion to the signal to an antenna, and a larger portion further down the line to another antenna, a splitter, or more couplers.

Couplers are typically used in professional building installations with boosters that provide plenty of signal strength to handle the loss involved in tapping a cable.
